Introduction, Analysis and Strategic Objectives

Kandahar University was established in 1990 with the establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture. Since 1993, the Faculty of Medicine, Engineering, Education, Sharia, Economics, Journalism  and Public Relations, Law and Political Science, Public Administration and Policy, Languages and Literature, Computer Science, Stomatology and Pharmacy faculty have been established one after the other. Since its establishment, Kandahar University has fulfilled its responsibilities in a very difficult security, political and economic circumstances for educating the country 's young generation, and so far, (9,649) individuals from all faculties except Stomatology and Pharmacy have been graduated from 30 departments of bachelor and one master 's program until 2020. Kandahar University is also functioning as a representative of the Ministry of Higher Education in the South West Zone and is the guiding, support and monitoring center of all public and private universities and higher education institutions. Kandahar University did not own any land and facilities for its teaching and administrative activities till 1383 and conducted its teaching activities in various government buildings in Kandahar city. In the year 1383, with the help of Kandahar Governor's Office, the university acquired its permanent property and moved to the present Central Campus, which is located in the Ninth District of Kandahar City on the banks of the Loya WyalaCurrently, Kandahar University owns a total of 350 hectares of land, including the Medical Campus and the Ayno Maena Campus, in addition to the current site. In the present central campus, there are 3 new standard teaching buildings, 11 old non-standard teaching buildings for teaching and administrative affairs, Research Farm of Biology, Central Laboratory, Library, Two Climate Stations, Career Center, IT Center, Media Center, Research center, English Language and Computer center, Professional Development Center, Advising Clinic of Law and Political Science, Peace and Anti-violence Research Center of Pacha Khan, Educational and Research Center of Afghan-India, small old mosque, cafeteria, hostel for boys and girls, First Aid Health Clinic, Football,  Cricket. Volleyball and Basketball sports courts, Sample gardens of Pistachio and grapes and a graveyard for the prominent scholars.  The medical campus has a standard building for bachelor's and master's programs and, unfortunately, a non-standard old building for the teaching hospital and laboratory, a proper mosque, a girls 'and boys' dormitory, and a football field.The third campus of Aino Maina unfortunately does not yet have a retaining wall and its land is under threat of encroachment and one of its edges is already encroached. However, there is an incomplete teaching building and an incomplete dormitory building in the campus, which is not safe from theft and robbery. The Pacha Khan Research Center, one of the main centers of Kandahar University, is the only one of its kind in the country to work in the field of peace and non-violence. The center was established in (1387) and so far it has conducted more than (200) training workshops and around (20) educational seminars and conferences, not only for university professors and students, but also for girls and boys of high schools in Kandahar city.

With regard to publications, it publishes one magazine under the name of Shigana (ښیګڼه) and a news Bulletin under the name of Zgham (زغم). The Career Center was established for the first time on a national level in 1390, with the initiative of Kandahar University and with financial support from the United States of America. The center helps in the employment of university graduates and in enhancing the working capacity and professional skills of the current students through training workshops and internships and has many good experiences and achievements in these fields.Kandahar University has two academic journals called Naranj (نارنج) and Mandigak (منډیګګ) for the publication of academic research and articles of its professors. Four issues are published in a year and a special issue is published whenever it is needed. It also publishes a bi-annual catalog for university introductions and a monthly bulletin for the publication of its monthly activities. With the acquisition of an independent Internet domain, all of the above publications will also be published online on the university's website.

About 3200 students from all over the country are introduced to Kandahar University every year through Kankor Test  Currently there are around 10,000 students and 561 current faculty, administrative staff and service staff from 22 provinces (See Table 1). Kandahar University is one of the top five public and private universities in Afghanistan that gained five years of academic accreditation in one year in the first phase of the accreditation of higher education system and universities in Afghanistan. Also, in the periodical review of academic programs, (2) academic programs have received the privilege of continuity.

It has joint work agreements with 11 governmental and non-governmental organizations of the country and has academic and technical relations with (13) reputable universities of the world. Moreover, the university has memberships in Global Water Partnership, Erasmus+, Himalaya University Consortium, Asia Pacific Quality Network, CHEA-CIQG and South Asia Higher Education Symposium. A lecturer at Kandahar University is also a member of APQN foreign evaluation (EPR) who is participating in the assessment of local universities. Kandahar University  has twelve (12) faculties in its formation structure, and from which night shifts are also active in education, economy, sharia, public administration and policy faculties. There are also separate single gender classes for girls in Sharia and Public administration faculties too. The in-service (14 graduates) section is also active in the Faculty of Education. Meanwhile, the MPH master 's program which started in (1395) in the Faculty of medical Science is rolling successfully. Kandahar University has a total of 52 departments, of which 30 are bachelor 's degree awarders, one master 's degree and 21 are non-graduating supportive departments.
